Prepare. Prepare. And prepare some more. That is what it takes to pull off conferences and meetings that meet your objectives and exceed attendee expectations. Most businesses, associations and nonprofits simply do not have the resources and expertise in house to plan and execute successful conferences, trade shows or meetings. It can be nearly impossible for someone to plan a large conference or meeting in addition to his or her “regular” job.

Post-Event Debriefs

Event planning does not end when your last guest leaves. There are always loose ends to tie up; and even when an event seems to have been flawless, a formal debrief helps to uncover elements that can be improved upon in the future. The post-event debrief process includes:
  • Paying all outstanding vendor invoices
  • Reconciling actual expenses against the event budget
  • Scheduling a debrief meeting with key players to discuss all aspects of the event and what worked well and what did not
  • If appropriate, developing and sending out a post-event survey to attendees
  • Documenting successes and areas for improvement for future reference

As a professional event planner, my job is not finished until we have fully discussed and evaluated all aspects of your event.
